A special approach: principles of caring for oily skin with acne depending on its needs

A special approach: principles of caring for oily skin with acne depending on its needs

Oily skin is one of the most common skin types. Characterized by enlarged pores, excess sebum production, and a tendency toward acne, this type of skin can cause numerous problems and discomfort for its owners. Combination skin can also develop oily characteristics under various conditions (adolescence, hormonal fluctuations, summer). It's widely believed that oily skin needs to be "dried" and "cleansed" as much as possible. While various products are used to significantly reduce sebum production, oiliness can be replaced by dryness, irritation, and redness, and acne persists. Treatment and care for this type of skin must be tailored individually to ensure maximum success. Let's consider the main typical situations from my practice.

The first portrait of the patient:

  • oily skin,
  • greasiness,
  • minimal number of comedones ("blackheads") or their absence,
  • the number of acne no more than 5-8 pieces.
In this case, a two-stage care system with products from the specialized Seracin line of the pharmaceutical brand LIBREDERM, designed to combat imperfections, will help successfully normalize the skin's condition and maintain it healthy.

The care system for Problematic skin

Step 1. Cleansing

We recommend using Seracin Cleansing Gel in the morning and evening. It effectively and gently removes all impurities, including makeup residue, without overdrying the skin. Its rich composition of active ingredients also prepares the skin for subsequent care steps. In addition to cleansing, thanks to additional active ingredients such as zinc, sulfur, burdock and rhododendron extracts, and hydroxy acids, the gel helps normalize sebum secretion and has a mattifying and antiseptic effect. Allantoin in the product helps improve skin regeneration, soothe, and soften the skin. A complex of plant ingredients (hydrolyzed corn starch and beetroot extract) maintains an optimal moisture balance in the surface layers of the skin.

Step 2. Care

After washing, we move on to the next step - skin care. Itstarts with the mattifying toner Seracin, which does not contain alcohol and does not dry out the skin. The toner gently restores the skin's pH and helps normalize its oiliness, possessing astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.
As a primary skincare product, I recommend using the specializedSeracin DUO Cream-Gel. It is easy to use, has a light texture, and is quickly absorbed, making it a great makeup base. The cream-gel contains a wide range of active ingredients that help quickly normalize sebaceous gland function and correct imperfections. With regular use, it prevents the appearance of blackheads, acne, and post-acne spots, while reducing skin oiliness and pore size (even on hot summer days). The active ingredients of the product (niacinamide, prebiotic, zinc, sulfur, antibacterial complex, moisturizing complex of natural saccharides, salicylic acid) provide a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect, restore the physiological pH and microbiome of the skin. It is important that the cream-gel helps to preserve and maintain its moisture for a long time.

The cream-gel is recommended for daily use, especially if the doctor has recommended drug therapy in parallel, since this product prevents over-drying of the skin, which is an important condition for normalizing its oiliness. Otherwise, it will compensatorily produce increased amounts of sebum, forming a vicious pathological circle of "temporary excessive dryness - increased oiliness".

The second patient profile:

  • oily skin,
  • expressed oiliness,
  • a large number of comedones ("blackheads"),
  • the number of acne no more than 8-12 pieces,
  • the need for professional facial cleansing or their regular use,
  • a tendency to peeling,
  • the presence of post-acne spots,
  • constant use of thick masking foundation.
This type of skin condition often requires more intensive care. In search of solutions to the aforementioned problems, many try to get rid of them on their own using various, sometimes aggressive, methods: squeezing comedones and inflammatory lesions, spot-drying them with various concentrated solutions, including alcohol-based ones. All this can only lead to additional problems—the development of persistently enlarged pores, dry and flaky skin, and skin trauma. The latter leads to the formation of crusts and post-acne scars, which, without proper care, can lead to the development of persistent hyperpigmented spots. Failure to improve the skin's condition despite such treatments leads to the desire to create maximum camouflage with corrective cosmetics, which often boast high coverage due to their high synthetic content. Without treatment and proper skin care, this can often lead to a comedogenic effect. All this significantly worsens the course of acne.

Care system for problem skin

In this case, I also recommend using the Seracin LIBREDERM line according to the following scheme:

Step 1. Cleansing

Step 1. Make-up removal
Micellar waterwill gently and effectively remove makeup and prepare the skin for the next step.
Step 2. Washing
Washing your face with the new product in the line -micro-exfoliating cleansing gelfor skin with pronounced imperfections. It promotes intensive cleansing of the skin and pores from various impurities, reduces the appearance of post-acne scars, reduces oiliness, and helps prevent acne. Salicylic acid exfoliates the surface layer of the skin, preventing clogged pores, and reduces the appearance of acne lesions due to its ability to penetrate the sebaceous glands and exert a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. The gel is enriched with zinc and sulfur, which greatly enhances the beneficial effects of all the active ingredients. After washing, the gel provides a light cooling and soothing effect, which reduces the severity of redness and irritation of the skin.

Step 2. Care

I also recommend using the Seracin DUO corrective cream-gel for problem skin on a daily basis. In addition to the above-mentioned components, it contains niacinamide (vitamin B3). Possessing sebum-regulating properties, it also has the ability to effectively reduce the severity of the inflammatory process and pigmentation, which makes it one of the key ingredients in the fight against post-acne spots, as well as the prevention of their occurrence. You can complement your skincare routine with Azelaic Forte Anti-Acne Night Cream. This product normalizes sebum production, evens out skin texture, eliminates hyperpigmentation, and cleanses and tightens pores. A moisturizing component based on aloe vera maintains optimal skin hydration. 5% azelaic acid in an innovative water-soluble form demonstrates high activity in low concentrations and has pronounced anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Thus, depending on the patient's oily skin condition, daily care can and should be tailored to specific problems and needs for maximum results. The above-described products from the Seracin line can be used both as stand-alone care and in combination with medications prescribed by a cosmetologist/dermatologist. The line is recommended by dermatologists, as it has undergone clinical studies. In my experience, its use helps maintain the achieved results after the main therapy, which helps prevent acne recurrence.
